From Top Gun dreams to Chief Test Pilot: The journey that led to a dream job

November 11, 2018

Jon Ohman, GE Aviation’s Chief Test Pilot and Marine Corps Veteran, fell in love with aviation as a young boy.

His path began at the age of 13 when he saw the movie Top Gun and instantly knew what he wanted to do when he grew up. Despite adversity and setbacks, including a failed attempt to get into the Naval Academy, Ohman was determined to push harder. Through hardships and separation from family and loved ones, Ohman never gave up on his flight dreams.

Since joining GE Aviation three years ago, Ohman, based in Victorville, CA, has captained test campaigns for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B, GEnx-1B, and the GE9X engine programs. He is the first person in the world to fly a GE9X powered aircraft.

Watch as Ohman shares his journey... how his experiences led him to where he is today and why his work at GE Aviation helps him feel like he is part of something bigger than himself.
